Huchuy Qosqo

Huchuy Qosqo  is a 3 day / 2 night trek that is fantastic trek to do with the whole family – even with your kids.

You will be able to walk and enjoy the Inca trail and experience the real Andes in a short time. There will also be many opportunities to learn about the local traditions as we pass through local communities and to gain spectacular views of the Sacred Valley from many vantage points.

Day 1 – CUSCO – QUESSER PASS- GOLDEN LAKE – QUENQO:

We pick you up from your hotel at 6.30 am by car and take you to the Inca site call Puca Pucara (3700msnm) only 20 minutes from the city of Cusco. From here we begin hiking, gently uphill for 11/2 hours to get to the first pass which is at (4 100 msnm).
From here we have a spectacular views of two valleys. To your right you will see the capital of the incas, Cusco, with stunning mountains surrounding it. Your guide will tell you about how and where the Incas arrived to this area and also about the conquest of the Spaniards. There are two Inca sites at the bottom of the valley and on your left, there is beautiful landscape of grass-covered mountains and farmlands.. We continue along the trail down into the valley for 11/2 hours to get a tranquil village called CORRIMARCA (golden house 3600 msnm) where our archeologist found some Inca ruins which most likely acted as a storage for the Incas to store gold. Currently the best vegetable and flower farmers work in this area.Then we cross the Quesser river and keep walking to where we see farmlands with onions, carrots, cauliflowers, turnips, lettuce, fava beans and more produce.

By 12.00 am we will reach the Manager’s village called SSEQUERACCAY (chicha house or Inca maize beer house 3550 msnm). Raul was born and raised here. We well have lunch at his house with his family and perhaps you might see some guinea pigs. We will see about 30 families who work on the surrounding farms living in mudbrick houses.

After leaving Ssequeraccay, we will walk another 11/2 hours gently uphill to reach the second pass call LLAMA pass at 4.200 msnm. From here you will appreciate and understand how amazing the Andes truly are.. Then we reach the most famous lake in the area around called the GOLDEN lake, which has a very rich history. You can see birds such as Andean geese and falcons. If time permits we can go fishing. We will also see many llamas and alpacas grazing around the lake. It will begin to cool down towards the end of the day, so we only walk one more hour and arrive at the campsite by 5.00pm. The campsite is called QUENQO (a small village 3850 msnm). Your tents will be set up for you and after we will enjoy happy hour and have dinner before a well-earned sleep.

Day 2 – QUENCCO – HUCHUYQOSQO – LAMAY- OLLANTAYTAMBO- AGUAS CALIENTES:

You will be awoken with a hot coca tea and when you are ready we will enjoy a tasty Breakfast.. Then we visit a traditional Family’s house appreciate how the Andean people live in this region. You will be able to learn about the tradition, customs and the agriculture which still echo those of the Incans. They still use similar textiles, farm crops, such as Andrean potatoes, with Incan farming tools.

If you are interested in taking home gifts or souvenirs of the Andes, there is a good opportunity to find them here. We then walk 2 more hours with many llamas along the way to reach the original Inca trail, just below the village of Pumamarca. At this point, the valley narrows to form a ravine where amazingly well maintained Inca staircases lead us down to see a magnificent view of the Sacred Valley and the sacred river of the Incas- the URUBAMBA river. We will be able to see snow capped mountains above us and the famous Urubamba mountain range. There will be ample time to take advantage of the many picturesque photos on offer.

Little by little we will be making our way towards the original Inca trail, close to the adobe Inca gate way and the magnificent Inca site of HUCHUYQOSQO ( LITLE CUSCO 3600 msnm) which is perched above one of the sacred valley of the incas. Here, you will see amazing Inca buildings like religious houses, store houses, Inca terraces for agriculture and an Inca reservoir used to deposit water in the dry season. Do not worry because your guide is an expert in the history of the Incas, so he will explain and teach you about everything. Afterwards you will have time to explore the area by yourself. We will have our lunch at the Inca site, from here we will walk downhill for 2 hours to get to the Sacred Valley and LAMAY (2 800msnm) on the Urubamba River where the bus will be waiting to take us to Ollantaytambo. We will have dinner in a restauraunt here before taking the 7.pm train with your guide to Aguas Calientes. We will get set up in our hotel and be able to rest, hot showers are available.

Day 3 – AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU- AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO:

Reaching Machupicchu is the most important part of our trip and we will give you the option of how you want to arrive to this sacred site. You can either walk up the stairs for 1hr 20 minutes at 4.00am or you can take the first bus at 5.30 am, which takes 25 minutes. We need to wake up early in order to arrive early to machupicchu to see the sunrise over this beautiful place. The citadel, which supplies tickets for Huaynapicchu, is open at 6.oo am. Then you will move toward to the postcard picturesque spot to take the best photos without the crowds and then have a chance to see the sunrise.

Afterwards you will have a guided tour around the area for 3 hours. Then you will be free with the options of climbing huaynapicchu or the Sun Gate. Both have breathtaking views but make sure there is plenty of time to explore machupicchu. After you have taken in all of Macchupicchu, you will return to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch with your guide. Then board the afternoon train (usually at 3.pm) to Ollantaytambo where you will board a bus and return to Cusco at approximately 6.30pm.
